Gangnam Seoul · Immediate-loading implants explained

Same-Day Dental Implants in Gangnam Seoul

"Same-day implants" usually means immediate loading: a temporary tooth is attached soon after the implant is placed. Suitability depends on your bone, checked with 3D CT.

In short: with immediate loading, a temporary crown or bridge is fixed to a new implant on the day or within days, instead of after months. It is only suitable when the implant is very stable in good bone. The final crown is still made after healing, usually 2–6 months later. Your dentist decides if it is right for you after a 3D CT scan.

Understanding the terms

What does "same-day implant" mean?

Normally an implant heals for a few months before a tooth is attached. Immediate loading attaches a temporary tooth straight away, so you are not left with a gap.

It does not shorten bone healing. Dr. Wook-Dong Kim, Dr. Sung-Ook Oh and Dr. Il-Hyun Kim will tell you honestly at your consultation which approach is safer for you.

May be possible

Immediate loading

Temporary tooth on or soon after placement day.

  • Needs strong implant stability
  • Final crown after healing
Often recommended

Conventional loading

The implant heals first; the tooth goes on later.

  • Safer in soft, thin or grafted bone
  • A removable temporary covers the gap

Factors that help

Who may be suitable?

  • Enough bone, confirmed on 3D CT
  • Dense bone that holds the implant firmly
  • Healthy gums, no active infection
  • No heavy grinding; non-smoker

Factors against

When we usually wait

  • Large bone grafts or a sinus lift needed
  • Infection at the extraction site
  • Untreated gum disease or strong bruxism
  • Implant not stable enough on the day

How we decide

From assessment to final tooth.

The final decision is sometimes made during surgery, once implant stability is measured.

Side by side

Immediate vs conventional loading

Both use the same implant; the difference is when a tooth is attached.

Aspect Immediate loading Conventional loading
Tooth attached Temporary on the day or within days After about 2–6 months
Bone needed Good bone, strong stability Suits a wider range of cases
Gap while healing Usually none Removable temporary possible

Suitability is confirmed only after examination and 3D CT. We cannot promise immediate loading before seeing your scan.

Protecting the implant

Caring for an immediately loaded implant

The temporary tooth is for looks and comfort, not for hard chewing.

  • Eat soft food; avoid biting on the temporary
  • Avoid nuts, ice and sticky sweets
  • Keep the area clean as instructed
  • Do not smoke while healing
  • Call us if the temporary feels loose

Questions patients ask us

Same-day implants FAQ

Do you offer same-day dental implants in Gangnam?
Immediate loading is considered case by case. It depends on your bone and implant stability, assessed with 3D CT and confirmed at your consultation.
Is a same-day implant a permanent tooth?
No. The tooth attached on the day is temporary. The permanent crown follows after healing, usually 2–6 months later.
Is immediate loading riskier than waiting?
In well-selected cases results can be similar. In soft or grafted bone, early forces can disturb healing, so we only use it when the implant is stable.
Can a tooth be removed and replaced with an implant the same day?
Sometimes, depending on infection, bone and stability. Your dentist explains the options after examination.
Do your dentists speak English?
Yes. Your dentist explains everything in English, and our coordinator Ms. Choi has helped international patients here for over 15 years.
