Laser Periodontal Therapy in Gangnam Seoul

Laser periodontal therapy uses a dental laser alongside deep cleaning to treat infected gum pockets. Here is what it is, who it may suit, and how it fits into gum treatment.

In short: laser periodontal therapy is a gum disease treatment in which a dental laser helps remove inflamed tissue and reduce bacteria in gum pockets, together with cleaning of the root surfaces. It is an add-on to deep cleaning, not a replacement. Whether it suits you depends on your pocket depths; your dentist will advise at the consultation.

Understanding the treatment

What is laser periodontal therapy?

In gum disease, pockets form between the gum and tooth and fill with bacteria. A dental laser is a focused beam of light that can remove inflamed pocket lining and reduce bacteria as part of cleaning. Evidence that it adds benefit over careful deep cleaning alone is mixed, so we decide case by case.

May suit

Selected gum pockets

Laser assistance is sometimes considered for:

  • Moderate pockets that bleed or stay inflamed
  • Areas responding slowly to cleaning
  • Patients wanting a less invasive first step
Not instead of

Standard care still needed

A laser does not replace the basics:

  • Tartar must still be removed from roots
  • Deep bone defects may need surgery
  • Home care decides long-term success

Possible benefits

What patients may notice

  • Often less bleeding during treatment
  • Usually no stitches for laser-assisted cleaning
  • Tenderness for a few days rather than longer

Limitations

What it cannot do

  • It cannot reverse bone loss by itself
  • It is not suitable for every pocket or patient
  • Your dentist confirms whether laser assistance is available and suitable for you

Questions patients ask us

Laser periodontal therapy FAQ

Is laser gum treatment better than deep cleaning?
Not automatically. A laser is used together with deep cleaning, and research on its added benefit is mixed.
Does laser periodontal therapy hurt?
Treatment is done under local anaesthetic. Gums may feel tender for a few days afterwards.
Can a laser regrow lost bone?
Not by itself. In suitable sites, grafting may help; your dentist will explain your options.
How much does laser periodontal therapy cost in Seoul?
Cost depends on your diagnosis, the materials and the number of teeth or visits involved. After your examination we give you a written, itemised quote in English before any treatment begins.
Can I do it during a short trip?
Often, yes. Examination and treatment can usually be done within about a week, with English records for follow-up at home.
