Dental Crowns in Gangnam Seoul

A crown protects a weak, cracked or heavily filled tooth and restores its shape and colour. Our prosthodontics team plans it, and our in-house lab makes it on site.

In short: a dental crown is a custom cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It is used after a root canal, for cracked or broken teeth, for large fillings and on top of implants. A crown usually takes two visits, with a temporary crown in between.

Understanding crowns

What is a dental crown?

A crown (cap) is fixed over a tooth that has been carefully reshaped. It strengthens the tooth and makes it look natural again.

Dr. Wook-Dong Kim, Dr. Sung-Ook Oh and Dr. Il-Hyun Kim choose the material with you, and our in-house lab matches the shape and shade to your teeth.

Natural look

All-ceramic & zirconia

Tooth-coloured, metal-free crowns.

  • Zirconia: very strong, good for back teeth
  • Glass-ceramic: lifelike for front teeth
Other options

Porcelain-fused-to-metal & gold

Metal-based crowns for specific situations.

  • Proven and durable
  • Gold: gentle on opposing teeth

Common reasons

When do you need a crown?

Before you decide

What to know

  • Some tooth structure is removed
  • Mild sensitivity can follow for a few days
  • Smaller damage may suit a filling or onlay
  • Crowns can chip or wear over time

How it works

For international patients

Getting a crown while in Seoul

A crown can usually be completed in one stay. Tell us your dates and we'll plan both visits.

  • Residents: most crowns are not covered by NHIS for adults; we confirm costs in writing first.
  • U.S. military families: we work with the TRICARE Dental Program.
  • Visitors: English treatment notes and receipts for your insurer.

A typical visit plan

    Send X-rays or photos.

  2. Day 1

    Exam, plan and tooth preparation.

Long-term care

Caring for your crown

A crown cannot decay, but the tooth underneath can.

  • Brush twice a day and floss around the crown
  • Avoid sticky food on the temporary crown
  • Avoid biting ice or hard objects
  • Wear a night guard if you grind
  • Check-ups every 6–12 months

Questions patients ask us

Dental crowns FAQ

How long does a dental crown take in Seoul?
Usually two visits, with the crown made in our in-house lab in between. The exact timing is confirmed at your consultation.
Does getting a crown hurt?
The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic, so most people feel little discomfort. Mild sensitivity for a few days is normal.
Which crown material is right for me?
Zirconia suits back teeth; glass-ceramic often suits front teeth. Your dentist explains the options for your tooth.
How much does a crown cost in Korea?
Cost depends on your diagnosis, the materials and the number of teeth or visits involved. After your examination we give you a written, itemised quote in English before any treatment begins.
Do your dentists speak English?
Yes. Your dentist explains everything in English, and our coordinator Ms. Choi has helped international patients here for over 15 years.
