Protruded Teeth Correction in Gangnam Seoul

Front teeth that stick out can affect your smile, lips and bite. Our board-certified orthodontist explains why it happens and how it can be corrected — in English.

In short: protruded teeth (overjet, or "buck teeth") are upper front teeth that sit too far ahead of the lower teeth. Most cases are corrected with braces or clear aligners, sometimes with tooth removal to make space. If the jaw itself is the cause, orthodontics may be combined with jaw surgery by a specialist surgeon.

Understanding protrusion

What are protruded teeth?

The upper front teeth, and sometimes the lips, sit forward of the lower teeth — because of tooth position, jaw size or both.

Dr. Eung-Soo Kim, ABO Diplomate, first finds the cause — this decides the treatment.

Teeth

The jaws are in balance but the teeth are tipped or crowded forward.

  • Usually corrected with braces or aligners
  • Tooth removal may be needed to create space
Jaw

Skeletal protrusion

A difference in upper and lower jaw size or position.

  • Growing children: growth may be guided
  • Adults: sometimes orthodontics plus jaw surgery

During treatment

Tips while your teeth move

Simple habits protect your result:

  • Expect a few days of tightness after each adjustment or new aligner set
  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods with braces; take aligners out to eat
  • Wear your retainer as instructed — teeth tend to drift back without it
  • Call us if a bracket comes loose or an aligner cracks

Protruded teeth FAQ

Can protruded teeth be fixed without surgery?
Often, yes. When the teeth are the cause, braces or aligners can usually move them back. Surgery is only for some jaw-related cases.
Will I need teeth removed?
Sometimes. If there is not enough space to move the front teeth back, removing two or four teeth may be advised. Dr. Kim will explain why.
Can adults correct buck teeth?
Yes, if the gums and bone are healthy.
How long does correction take?
Often one to two years, sometimes longer.
How much does protruded teeth correction cost in Gangnam?
Cost depends on your diagnosis, the materials and the number of teeth or visits involved. After your examination we give you a written, itemised quote in English before any treatment begins.
