Orthodontics in Gangnam Seoul

Crooked, crowded or protruding teeth? Board-certified orthodontist Dr. Eung-Soo Kim straightens teeth with braces or clear aligners — and explains every choice in English.

In short: orthodontics moves teeth and guides the bite into a healthier position, using braces, hidden lingual braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign. It suits teens and adults with crowding, gaps, protruding teeth or bite problems. Treatment takes months to a few years, with regular check-ups and a retainer afterwards.

Understanding orthodontics

What can orthodontic treatment fix?

Gentle, steady pressure moves teeth into better positions. Straight teeth are easier to clean, and a balanced bite spreads chewing forces evenly.

Dr. Eung-Soo Kim is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), trained at Seoul National University and Columbia University, and a certified Invisalign and Incognito provider.

Fixed

Braces

Brackets joined by a wire; suit simple and complex cases.

  • Metal or tooth-coloured ceramic
  • Lingual (Incognito) braces hidden behind the teeth
Removable

Clear aligners

Thin, clear trays changed every week or two.

  • Nearly invisible, removed to eat
  • Worn about 20–22 hours a day

For international patients

Straightening your teeth while living in Seoul

Many orthodontic patients are expats and students. Our English coordinator, Ms. Choi, books visits around your schedule.

  • Insurance: Korean NHIS usually does not cover orthodontics; some private plans and TRICARE Dental do. We provide English receipts.
  • Moving away? Tell us early — we can give you copies of your records for another orthodontist.

A typical plan

  1. Before you arrive

Message us on WhatsApp or email.

  2. Visits 1–2

Consultation, records, then your plan and cost in English.

  3. Active phase

    Check-ups about every 4–8 weeks.

  4. Afterwards

    Retainer checks.

A full course needs regular visits in Seoul, so it suits residents, students and long-stay visitors best.

During and after treatment

Looking after your teeth with orthodontics

Good habits keep treatment on track:

  • Expect a few days of tightness after each adjustment or new aligner set
  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods with braces; take aligners out to eat
  • Wear your retainer as instructed — teeth tend to drift back without it
  • Call us if a bracket comes loose or an aligner cracks

Questions patients ask us

Orthodontics FAQ

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age if the gums and bone are healthy.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Mild cases may take several months; complex cases two years or more.
Should I choose braces or Invisalign?
Both work well. Aligners are nearly invisible but depend on you wearing them; braces suit more complex movements. Dr. Kim will advise.
Do I need a retainer after treatment?
Yes. Teeth tend to drift back, so a retainer is part of every plan.
Is orthodontics covered by insurance in Korea?
Usually not by Korean NHIS. Some private plans and the TRICARE Dental Program include orthodontic benefits; we provide English receipts.
